Saturday, May 28 "Garden Starters & Seedlings Day" at SFM
Come and kick off the 2011 gardening season by shopping for top-quality garden starts from our local growers specializing in hearty, climate hardened plants and veggies. Bring your gardening questions and stop by and talk with the Cooperative Extension expert for gardening advice this season. Celebrate International Year of the Forest 2011 by purchasing a birch, spruce, or larch tree seedling for your own yard at the Market Information booth. These seedlings are sponsored by the Society of American Foresters and generate profit for two UAF scholarships while helping people understand the benefits of good forestry.

Saturday, June 4 "Concert in Spenard" special Market hours will be 9:00 -1:00. The SMF will need to close early due to the set-up of the Chilkoot Charlie's Barenaked outdoor concert. Normal customer and vendor parking WILL NOT be available in the Market parking lot but will be available BEHIND La MEx on Spenard Road. Thank you for your continued support of the SFM!

Saturday, June 18 is the ever popular "Kids Day!" Bring the whole family out under the windmill Saturday for special events for Kids-of-All-Ages, as well as 45 vendors, information booths, food, and live music by the popular group UltraLuscious. Home Depot will have a Make it/Take it booth, Blaine’s Art will sponsor a free sidewalk chalk area for people to draw and get creative on the pavement, and we will be hosting the “SFM Blooming Artist Youth Booth” with the work of emerging artist Laura Gordon.
Matanuska Creamery will be offering free Milk & Cookies in celebration of Kids Day AND National Dairy Month! Big kids can sample Matanuska Creamery Cheese Curds in a variety of flavors including: Garlic Dill, Chipotle, Salsa, Chive and Onion, Italian, Ranch. The season’s first fresh Mozzarella will be available in half and one pound blocks.

Saturday, June 25, "Bird Treatment & Learning Center Day!" Meet your favorite feathered friends from the Bird TLC up close! New and exciting birds every two hours throughout the day -what a fantastic photo opportunity for visiting friends and family.
Saturday, July 2 - Patriotic Day, Have your red, white and blue on! Spenard Farmer’s Market is hosting RED, WHITE & BLUE Day for an ALL-AMERICAN SPENARD! The Market will be festive with flags and all vendors are being encouraged to dress up their booths as patriotic as possible with balloons, flags and other 4th of July decorations! There will also be a contest for the booth that is the most patriotic, and back by popular demand is the Back Acres band that will be providing live music.
Saturday, July 9 - Sustainable Spenard Day, recycle, reuse and GET GREEN at the Spenard Farmer's Market. Ask the experts your recycling questions or learn how to start a compost pile. Bring your old CFL's for free and SAFE recycling.

Learn more about the Alaska Botanical Garden where northern horticulture and native plants are showcased throughout a 110 acre spruce and birch woodland in Anchorage, Alaska.The Alaska Botanical Garden is a public garden dedicated enhancing the beauty and value of plant material through education, preservation, recreation, and research.

Saturday, August 6 - Pet Day! - bring your pet, adopt a pet, love your pet. Saturday, August 6 is “Pets Day” at the Spenard Farmer’s Market! Volunteers from Animal Care and Control center will be at the market with dogs that are ready to find new families. Adopt A Dog AK, a local nonprofit animal rescue group that saves dogs from being the euthanasia list will also be at the market with adorable dogs, eligible for adoption. In addition to handing out free samples of “Yummy Chummies” an Alaskan made salmon treat, the market will host a drawing for a free gift basket of “Yummy Chummies” products. Catch a sockeye? Garden in the backyard? Pick mushrooms or berries? Show us! Spenard Farmers Market in partnership with the Anchorage Food Mosaic announces their 2nd Annual Eat Local Contest! We want your “grown, hunted, caught, or picked” photos and recipes featuring Alaska’s bounty. Send photos and recipes to spenardfarmersmarket@gmail.com and be entered for great prizes! Entries may also be submitted at the Market information booth during normal Market hours of 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.
