The 2015 Spenard Farmers Market is every Saturday, from May 16th through September 26, under the windmill in Spenard, Alaska at W. 26th and Spenard Road. The market hours are from 9-2.

Creating a Sustainable Community

The Veggies are here, the veggies are here! Glacier Valley Farms with their lovely GREEN lettuce at the Spenard Farmer's Market.

We have another full Market with over 40 vendors for July 9 and will be hosting Sustainable Spenard Day! Community service booths include the Bicycle Commuters of Anchorage, Alaska Center for the Environment, REAP and Chugach Electric. We will have CFL recycling along with our Greenstar Recycling containers available as well as demonstrations and information on how to create and maintain a sustainable community.

The Bicycle Commuters of Anchorage (BCA) encourages all ages and abilities to ride a bike to the Spenard Farmer’s Market this Saturday, July 9. BCA and the Anchorage Transition (AT) will be hosting free, secure bike parking from 9 am to 2 pm. BCA is a nonprofit organization designed with three goals: Advocacy, Education and Encouragement. BCA a
dvocates for a more bicycle friendly Anchorage by improving the city’s multi-use transportation infrastructure; educates both motorists and bicyclists in order to create a safer Anchorage and encourages bike riding with incentives like the monthly summer coffee and treat stations.

Anchorage Transition (AT) is a nonprofit networking organization for neighborhoods and/or groups interested in building resilient and sustainable communities. AT is a pro-active group encouraging members in home-grown, citizen-led education and action to increase local self reliance and resilience like the eating local food group. The
Spenard Farmer’s Market Blooming Artist Youth Booth is promoting youth art and the entrepreneurial spirit! Youth Artists for Saturday, July 9 will feature the work of two emerging artists. Returning to the Market is high school freshman, Laura Gordon with her budding business PERFECT LITTLE NOTHINGS. Laura creates original art prints and greeting cards capturing a moment and light with photographs taken by her. Laura also makes beaded jewelry including popular wraparound bracelets using a wide range of colors and beads. Seth Maclure, is 12 years old and is a young photographer with a unique perspective and eye. The name of Seth's business is TIP OF THE MOUNTAIN and his slogan is "The ultimate Alaskan experience caught in a frame."

Plein Air painters from the Anchorage area will be showing their talents at the Spenard Farmer’s Market this Saturday. Look for Don Kolstad, Kurt Jacobson, Jean Shadrach and Patricia Munz among others, from 9-2 pm this Saturday under the windmill on Spenard Road. Paintings will be for sale at the market so come prepared to pick up a new piece of artwork for your walls.
